Halloween money games (coins and making change)

Trick-or-Treat Money game cover

Trick-or-Treat Money K–2

Your child moves a pumpkin bucket to catch falling pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters that add up to a goal amount exactly. It practices coin values and adding money to a target, with goals that grow as your child wins. No timers, though a coin that goes over the goal costs a heart.

Haunted Cash Register game cover

Haunted Cash Register Grade 2

At the Haunted Candy Shop, “Friendly monsters want treats!” Your child rings up each treat, then pays the exact total in pennies, nickels, dimes and quarters. The hint teaches a real strategy: start with the biggest coin that fits.

Candy Corn Change Maker game cover

Candy Corn Change Maker Grade 2

Monsters buy candy corn at your child’s stand, and your child counts up from the price to what they paid, then hands back the change. Change comes from a dime, a quarter or a dollar, with a hint button and a glowing coin for when they’re stuck.

Candy-pile version (2 minutes): put a price in cents on two treats from the bag, say 7¢ and 12¢, and have your child pay for both from a pile of real coins. Then swap jobs: you pay with a quarter, and they count up from the price to give you your change. More ideas in 5 coin-counting games to play at home.

Free warm-up, no account: Piggy Bank Coin Counting (K–1) and Which Is Worth More? (K–2) practice the same coins, free.

Halloween number games (comparing, tens and ones, adding, skip counting)

Batty Compare game cover

Batty Compare K–1

Your child counts the treats in each bucket and taps the one with more, then picks the sign: less than, equal to or greater than, with numbers up to 999. Hints teach the place-value way to compare: hundreds first, then tens, then ones.

Candy Corn Tens and Ones game cover

Candy Corn Tens and Ones Grade 1

Your child builds numbers up to 99 with bags of 10 candy corns for the tens and single candy corns for the ones. The big idea it builds: 10 ones make 1 ten.

Cauldron Addition game cover

Cauldron Addition Grades 1–2

Your child adds two jars together to brew a potion, with sums up to 20. If they pick the wrong amount, the game explains why and helps them count from the right place. Not sure your kindergartner is ready for adding? Read Is your kindergartner ready for addition? first.

Spooky Skip Count game cover

Spooky Skip Count Grades 1–2

Your child counts along a pumpkin vine and taps the candy with the missing number, skip counting by 10s, 5s, 2s and 100s. If they slip back to counting by 1s, the game reminds them to jump by the right amount.

Candy-pile version (2 minutes): after trick-or-treating, bag the haul in tens: ten pieces per baggie, and the leftovers are the ones. “3 bags and 4 more is 34.” Then make two piles and have your child put >, < or = between them.

Free warm-up: none of the 5 free games covers these skills; use the 14-day free trial.

Halloween telling-time games

Monster Wake-Up Clock game cover

Monster Wake-Up Clock Grades 1–2

The monsters are asleep, and your child drags the clock hands to each monster’s wake-up time: o’clock, half past, quarter hours and 5-minute times. The tip: drag the long hand first.

Haunted Clock Tower game cover

Haunted Clock Tower Grades 1–2

The clock tower is chiming, and your child reads the clock and taps the time it shows, from o’clock up to 5-minute times. Hints cover where the short hand sits and counting by 5s for the minutes.

Pumpkin Time Match game cover

Pumpkin Time Match Grades 1–2

A memory game: your child flips two pumpkins at a time to match each clock to its time. It covers o’clock, half past, quarter hours and 5-minute times.

Which one when? All three are for 1st and 2nd grade, and each unlocks times in the same order as stages 2 and 3 of How to teach telling time without tears: o’clock and half past first, then quarter hours, then 5-minute times. Start with Haunted Clock Tower to read the clock, add Monster Wake-Up Clock to set the hands, and use Pumpkin Time Match for review.

Off-screen version: “Trick-or-treating starts at 6:00. What does the clock say now?” Ask it with a real analog clock, and again every half hour.

Free warm-up, no account: Tick Tock Time (Grades 1–2) is free.

Halloween shapes games (2D and 3D)

Haunted House Shape Hunt game cover

Haunted House Shape Hunt K–1

Your child searches a haunted house and taps every window with the shape the cat asks for, like all the circles or all the shapes with exactly 4 sides. It’s sorting 2D shapes by attributes, like counting sides.

Jack-o'-Lantern Shape Maker game cover

Jack-o'-Lantern Shape Maker K–1

Your child carves the jack-o’-lantern’s eyes, nose and mouth by tapping the shape the cat describes, like “perfectly round with no corners.” That’s naming shapes from their attributes, not just a picture.

Ghost Shadow Shapes game cover

Ghost Shadow Shapes K–1

Your child taps the ghost shadow with the same shape as the picture. Later shadows are turned and resized, which teaches that a shape is still the same shape.

Spooky 3D Shapes game cover

Spooky 3D Shapes K–2

Your child looks at a spooky thing, like a pumpkin, and taps the 3D shape it looks like: sphere, cube, cylinder, cone, pyramid or rectangular prism. Other rounds are riddles about faces and points: “I have 6 flat faces and every face is a square. What am I?”

Off-screen version: Spooky 3D Shapes asks which shape a pumpkin looks like. Keep going around the house: a pumpkin is close to a sphere, a witch hat is a cone, and a candle is a cylinder. Then find a cube.

Free warm-up, no account: Shape Safari (K–1) is free.

Halloween reading games (letter sounds, rhyming, spelling)

Boo! Letter Sounds game cover

Boo! Letter Sounds Kindergarten

Your child says the picture’s name and taps the letter for the sound the game asks for: the beginning, ending or middle sound. The game reminds kids to stretch the word out slowly.

Ghostly Rhymes game cover

Ghostly Rhymes K–1

Your child says the words out loud and picks the ones that rhyme. Later, two words rhyme and one doesn’t, and they tap the odd one out.

Haunted Spelling game cover

Haunted Spelling Grades 1–2

Your child taps the letters in order to spell short, medium and long Halloween words, with a speaker button to hear each word. Level 1 shows ghost letters to trace, and hints ask which sound comes next.

Off-screen version: a Halloween rhyme hunt. Say a word and take turns finding one that rhymes: bat and hat, moon and spoon. To be clear about what these three games are: phonemic awareness and spelling practice, not a full reading program.

Free warm-up, no account: Word Builder (K–1) is free.
